January is the time of year when we start thinking about the holidays; not earlier because there still is the Christmas atmosphere, and not later because planning a journey requires time, patience and a lot of research. This year we chose Malaysia and Singapore. Honestly, at the beginning our idea was to visit Thailand, but when we started looking for information we changed our minds because we read many articles about Malaysia and its beauty, without diminishing Thailand that sooner or later we’d like to visit.
Once we chose our destination, we started figuring out which are the best itineraries for two weeks. For us, spending a week at the sea was a “must”, so which place is better than Perhentian Islands? There are many sea locations in Malaysia but we chose Perhentian Islands because it was the best choice also according to the other destinations of our journey: Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
The second step is booking the flight and we selected one with Ethiad for 721 Euro each. Then we started looking for hotels in Kuala Lumpur and we booked a beautiful one (THE FACES Suites http://www.thefacekl.com/) right in front of the Petronas Tower and with a stunning infinity pool on the top. We’re going to have a great time there! We spend 233 Euro for 3 nights. As for the Perhentian Islands, we booked 7 night at “The Barat” which is in Perhentian Besar, for 403 Euro. It’s important to underline that hotels in Perhentian are really rustic, so you won’t find any luxurious hotel. Finally, we booked 3 nights in Singapore at “Peninsula Excelsior” (http://www.peninsulaexcelsior.com.sg/) and we spent 316 Euro. Singapore is a rich and expensive city, but we found a very good accommodation for the right price. At the same time, we had to book the local flights, but fortunately AirAsia is an incredible low-cost company that offers many flights per day. For our itinerary, we had to book three local flights: from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu round trip to get to the Perhentian and to come back, and from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. We didn’t book this flight round trip because we’re going to leave to go back to Italy from Singapore and not form Kuala Lumpur. Prices are really cheap, with the insurance and the hold baggage we spent 30-40 Euro per flight. Our advice is to book a journey like this one in advance because the hotels in the Perhentian have a limited availability, and the seats with AirAsia run out very quickly (we booked our local flights in January and some flights were already or almost full). We are really looking forward to leaving for this incredible adventure and we are really excited! At the same time, we can’t wait to share our days and our experiences with you!
Stay tuned…the best is yet to come!
